Safari in Tanzania

Fearless Family Travel #41

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Fearless Family Travel. It’s time to link up your family travel posts (new or old) so we can see what you’ve all been up to and what exciting places you’ve been visiting.

What I’ve been up to…

We’ve just returned from an amazing two weeks in Tanzania, Africa. We spent a week on safari, discovering two bucket-list destinations of mine, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, followed by a week relaxing on the beach, on the island of Zanzibar. But lets start with a travel disaster. While transiting through Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, en-route to Tanzania, my bag somehow lost its tag and failed to make the second flight. I was left without my bag for eight days, which is how long it took to find it and send it on to Tanzania. A week in the same one set of clothes, with no toiletries, not even a hairbrush! I’ll now be taking a change of clothes in hand luggage whenever I travel, along with a toothbrush and hairbrush. Having said, that its the first time it has ever happened to us.

Lots of great guesses on where we spent the last couple of weeks…and some of you are indeed spot on 😜but before the big reveal a travel disaster #keepingitreal which we’ve never experienced before! . My trusty @ospreypacks backpack which has been around the world 🌍 was lost at Schiphol airport ✈️ whilst we were transferring between flights. I spent a week (yes a whole week!) with nothing but the clothes I was wearing! No hairbrush, nothing! . I borrowed bits from the boys, bought a few pairs of elephant trousers (nothing much available where we were!) and hand washed and hairdryer dried my undies nightly! Not the best at all but I was proud I managed. Brings a whole new meaning to packing light 🤣. . Anyway, eventually my bag was found at Schiphol with no luggage tag 😢. Abandoned. We were reunited for the second part of our trip 😁. I was so happy to get it back. . This is the first time, despite hundreds of flights that a bag has ever been lost for this long. We’ve had a couple miss flights but then turn up the next day but never actually lost. Had this ever happened to you? We’re you somewhere you could buy next to nothing? . . . #familytravel #exploringfamilies #adventurefamily #travelmadfam #traveljunkies #goadventuretogether #adventurekids #neverstopexploring #takethekidseverywhere #travelasmuchasyoucan #travelfail #lostluggage #fearlessfamtrav #ourtribetravels #wanderlustmomblogger #familytravelblogger #ospreypacks #travelkids #adventuretravels #adventuretravel #travelmadfamilies #mumofboys #parentswhowander #myfamilywanderlust #parentblogger #travelnightmare

Despite the missing bag our week on safari was absolutely amazing. We visited the Ngorongoro Crater, an extinct volcanic caldera in the African Rift Valley, teaming with wildlife. It was quite unbelievable, everywhere you looked there were animals! In one day we saw five prides of lions, including the majestic male below. Lions are definitely king of the animal world. Seeing lions up close can be a little scary, but an unbelievable experience nevertheless.

Many of you guessed where we spent the last couple of weeks. Tanzania 🇹🇿 in Africa. So prepare for some animal spamming 🤣 . Ngorongoro Crater was our first safari experience and WOW! It’s a spectacular location, an extinct caldera in the Rift Valley, with an abundance of wild animals 🦁 🐘 🦓. . The journey down into the caldera is a bumpy affair, down the side of the caldera in a safari truck. Once down it seems as if you’re in a movie, with animals everywhere! If you want to see loads of wildlife easily this is the place to go. . The highlight for us was the five prides of lion 🦁 that we saw all within one day. This majestic male was so close. Seeing lions up close can be a little scary but it’s an amazing experience. They are definitely ‘king’ of the animal world. . . . #ngorongorocrater #ngorongoronationalpark #tanzania🇹🇿 #tanzaniasafari #visittanzania #animalsofafrica #wildanimals #safariafrica #safaritanzania #safarilive #beautifuldestinations #lovelysquares #fearlessfamtrav #ourtribetravels #wanderlustmomblogger #lpkids #parentswhowander #travelmadfam #traveljunkies #travelfamily #adventurekids #exploringfamilies #mumofboys #goadventuretogether #takeyourkidseverywhere #neverstopexploring #familytravel #travelasmuchasyoucan #myfamilywanderlust #exploringnaturewithchildren

Following this we moved to the northern Serengeti where we spent four days and nights in a bush camp, seeing the most amazing wildlife, from river crossings to lion kills, and leopard and cheetah sightings. It was a special trip and one that we’ll remember for a long time. One night we even had a visit from a herd of elephants, literally scratching themselves on our safari tent!

So onwards to the Serengeti, a huge National Park in Tanzania. We spent four days in the north of the Serengeti as this is where the best wildlife is this time of year. And what an amazing experience. . Our home was this safari tent. No fences between us and the animals, just some canvas! On our first night a herd of elephants 🐘 were in the camp, one of whom was scratching herself on our tent!! You can imagine we got very little sleep 💤 🤣. We had a walkie talkie in the tent to talk to the camp staff (you can’t leave the tent alone at night) who calmly told us there was nothing to worry about and the elephants were camp security for the night!! What an introduction to bush camping ⛺️. . The elephants didn’t visit again but every night we could hear animals. Lions 🦁 roaring, hyenas laughing and zebras 🦓. More unbelievable experiences that travel brings. . Have you ever stayed in a bush camp? Did you enjoy the sounds of the bush at night? . . . #serengetinationalpark #serengeti #tanzaniasafari #safariafrica #bushcamp #loveafrica #visittanzania #animalsofafrica #safaritanzania #lovesafari #beautifuldestinations #lovelysquares #fearlessfamtrav #ourtribetravels #lpkids #wanderlustmomblogger #familytravel #travelmadfam #traveljunkies #adventurekids #goadventuretogether #neverstopexploring #exploringnaturewithchildren #exploringfamilies #parentswhowander #myfamilywanderlust #mumofboys #worldschooling #travelasmuchasyoucan #thegreatoutdoors
