Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea

Kempinski Hotel Ishtar: Paradise at the Dead Sea

The Kempinski Hotel is legendary in Jordan, the absolute best we stayed in during our road trip through the country. A 5 star luxury hotel, situated on the edge of the famous salt lake, the lowest point on earth, it provides uninterrupted views across the vast sea towards the West Bank.

After spending two days in Aqaba and experiencing the Red Sea we made the 3.5 hour drive from Aqaba to the Dead Sea. 5 star hotels aren’t normally our style when we travel, usually we opt to spend most of our budget on experiences versus accommodation. The Kempinski Hotel  was a treat and a chance to relax for a couple of days in spectacular surroundings.

The Kempinski Hotel has 342 rooms, suites and villas, spread down the rocky hillside. The resort is designed so that all rooms have a view of the Dead Sea. We had two interconnecting rooms which were large and extremely comfortable. The bathrooms had a full sized shower and a very large bath tub. Complimentary drinks and snacks were available within the rooms.

There are nine pools in the hotel, some of them infinity pools, with fantastic views over the Dead Sea. We tried as many of them as we could during our stay, even though they were a little cold in early November!

The hotel has an amazing spa where you can experience wraps, scrubs, facials and massages, all with Dead Sea products. Unfortunately we didn’t get chance to use the spa, making do with our own mud wraps on the beach.

WIFI within the hotel is complimentary and worked extremely well.

Of course, the main draw of the Kempinski Hotel is that it is located on the rocky banks of the Dead Sea. The shoreline next to the hotel is strictly for hotel guests only. During high tourist season this can make a big difference as tourists flock to the area and public entrance points to the sea can be quite crowded.

Here we floated to our hearts content and covered ourselves in Dead Sea mud, provided in pots on the beach. It was a strange experience to be so buoyant in the sea, bobbing around like a cork, unable to sink. And the mud…well judge for yourself from the photos.

Sunsets over the Dead Sea are truly spectacular at the Kempinski. Sit with a drink and watch the sun go down for a memorable experience.

We loved our two night stay at the Kempinski, a welcome break from our adventures through Jordan. The Kempinski is definitely a treat but so worthwhile.
